How much does Airbnb charge hosts in 2026?
Airbnb's host-only fee is 15.5% of the booking subtotal — the nightly rate plus cleaning, pet and extra-guest fees, not taxes. It became mandatory for hosts using software like Hospitable on October 27, 2025, and for every other host outside the EEA on September 15, 2026. Guests no longer see a separate Airbnb service fee; hosts usually build the 15.5% into their prices.
What does Vrbo charge?
On Vrbo's default pay-per-booking plan, hosts pay a 5% commission plus 3% payment processing. Guests also pay a Vrbo service fee, commonly around 6–15% depending on the booking.
What does Booking.com charge?
Booking.com charges a commission that varies by market and property — around 15% is typical for US vacation rentals, sometimes more with optional programs. Guests pay no booking fee, so hosts price the commission in.
What does a direct booking cost?
Card processing — Stripe's standard US rate is 2.9% + 30¢ per charge — plus your website. There's no commission, and guests pay no service fee.
Should I leave Airbnb?
No — keep Airbnb for discovery and use a direct site for repeat guests, referrals, social media and longer stays. Every booking that comes direct instead saves the platform fee.
